Physiotherapy

UpHill Performance is a solo practice in Wright, ACT, combining physiotherapy, bike fitting, aerodynamic testing and a metabolic lab — because the answers to most performance problems don't sit neatly inside just one of those.

My path into physiotherapy ran through military service, then strength and conditioning, then sports science, and finally a Masters of Physiotherapy at the University of Canberra.
I'm an ESSA Accredited Sports Scientist (ASpS1) and an IBFI Level 2 certified bike fitter, specialising in metabolic analysis. I've worked with athletes at every level — amateurs finding their feet, elites chasing selection, and Olympians. Different sports, different demands, but the same underlying question every time: what is this body actually doing, and what does it need next?
That question is easier to answer when you can measure the answer rather than infer it. It's why the lab, the fit rig and the treatment table all live in the same building.

Sports Science
Exercise & Sports Science Australia accreditation — qualified to conduct physiological testing and interpret it into training that works.
Bike Fitting
International Bike Fitting Institute. Bike fitting is unregulated — this is the body that actually certifies competence.

It is one thing to study physiology. It is another to have your own body fail, be rebuilt, and have to earn back every bit of capacity from zero — slowly, unglamorously, and with no guarantee at the start of how far it would go.
That experience is the reason UpHill exists. It's also why I don't hand out generic programs or tell people what they can't do. I've been on the receiving end of that conversation, and I know exactly how much the person delivering it matters.
The clinic used to be called Functional Performance Centre. It changed in October 2024, when I started making cycling kit. A name that describes a service works on a clinic door and nowhere else — certainly not on the back of a jersey. Finding one that did meant answering a question I had never had to answer out loud: what is this actually about?
The answer had nothing to do with hills, or with bikes. An uphill battle is the one you are already in — the injury, the diagnosis, the thing that has taken something from you. Some of those are enormous. Most are not. The size was never the point.
UpHill was never about the hill. It's about the battle — and the only one worth winning is against yesterday.
01
UpHill is one practitioner by design. No handover, no repeating your history to someone new, and no gap between what was found and what gets treated.
02
Thresholds from a metabolic cart. Drag from a sensor. Position from a rig that adjusts under load. Opinions are cheap; data is actionable.
03
You should leave understanding what's wrong, why we're doing what we're doing, and what you're responsible for between sessions. Compliance follows comprehension.
04
Not the person next to you, and not the version of you from five years ago. Yesterday. The pain you woke up with, the doubt, the thing you didn't think you could do again. Some days that's a watt. Some days it's getting out of the chair. Both count, and both can be measured.
The clinic sits at 25 Diesendorf St, minutes from Coombs, Denman Prospect, Weston Creek and the rest of the Molonglo Valley — and just up the road from Mt Stromlo.
For riders that's genuinely useful: you can be fitted, tested, and out on real terrain confirming the changes inside the same morning, instead of driving across town to find out something doesn't work.
Alongside the clinical services I build custom bikes — working through geometry and paint options with top brands to get a bike that suits the position we've established, rather than fitting you to whatever came off the shelf.
There's also UpHill Apparel, born from a desire to create high-quality, affordable clothing for cyclists and active individuals. Like everything else here, it carries the spirit of overcoming adversity.

Whether it's an injury, a position, or a number you want to move — start by getting in touch.
